Service Pack 3 Takes Forever to Install!

Okay, I get that this is an iPhone blog, but today when I got to work, my computer greeted me with the message that I had updates to install.

I bet most of you, like me, still use Windows XP. I’ve got a Mac at home but use Windows at work. And so here I am this morning sitting in front of my Windows machine looking at the update message.

Another update for Windows XP? Okay, that’s no big deal because I’ve installed billions and billions of them, and usually I’m back to work a few minutes later.

But not Service Pack 3 for Windows XP.

I made a crucial mistake this morning when I accepted the prompt to install Service Pack 3. This sucker took a full 65 minutes to install on my 3-year-old Dell system. Sixty-five minutes. Over an hour of productivity lost. Gone forever. And now I’m so peeved at Microsoft I’m wasting another 10 minutes writing this post.

So my warning to you today is, don’t install Service Pack 3 unless you’ve got some time on your hands. I was expecting to hit the ground running when I got to work this morning. Instead, I lost an hour to my stupid decision to install Service Pack 3.

Which makes me appreciate all the more the simple joys that using a Mac brings.
