Leopard Now Syncs Google Contacts
The Google Mac Blog reports that Leopard users now have a leg up on the rest of the Mac world as the recent 10.5.3 release has added Address Book sync for Google, Yahoo, Exchange, and of course, dot Mac.
This was a logical step for Apple, given the growing number of third party apps designed for the same purpose, and this is decidedly good news for those of us who use the iPhone and Gmail as our information management solution of choice.
Still apparently absent is an option to sync iCal with Google Calendar, so I don’t think third party developers have anything to worry about just yet. Moreover, there are still a bzillion Tiger users out there (like me) who will rely on apps like Spanning Sync and SyncMan to get the job done. And, of course, this latest Leopard update does nothing for you if you are using Windows.
But, if you’re a Leopard user, its worth checking out. You could, for example, use Leopard to sync your Gmail contacts and then find a low cost app to handle Google Calendar syncing. Or, if you don’t use Gcal, then Leopard does everything you need right now.
At any rate, it’s interesting to watch as Google and Apple become ever more integrated.
