Here is an Awesome Gmail Tip!

I consider myself to be pretty proficient when it comes to Gmail. I’ve published a few tips on my blog, and generally, I like to think of myself as an efficient and knowledgeable Gmail user.

Well, imagine my surprise when I came across a pretty amazing tip from the folks over at MakeUseOf.com. This is one of those tips that I’m definitely going to put to good use right away—it’s that good!

Here’s the deal: Let’s say that your Gmail address is johnsmith@gmail.com. Did you know that you can alter this numerous ways and your Gmail will still be delivered to you? Hey, I didn’t know either, but it works.

I’ve currently got about 5 different email addresses. I have all of these set to forward mail to my Gmail account so I can read all my email in one place. Now, with this tip, I can dump some of these addresses and use alternative versions of my Gmail address instead. You could set up john.smith@gmail.com for work. In addition, you can use a “+” sign in your address. So, when you sign up for that suspicious website that you think might give you spam, you can use an email address like:

johnsmith+suspiciouswebsite@gmail.com.

If that address starts showering you with spam, well, hey, you’ll know where it’s coming from.

There are zillions of ways that this tip can be used to increase your productivity. I encourage you to read the entire post at MakeUseOf.com
